I mentioned this case with an elder this evening. He told me that it was probably the reason why the local population in St DiƩ opposed so violently the planned construction of a JW assembly hall in the area. One can understand...

Did anyone else here experiences of how someone was tired, stressed, busy, etc., but when they came into the hall all of it melted away
That's so true, Momz, every time I accompany my wife to evening meetings it takes less than 15 minutes before I gently noze down and fall into a sound nap. My wife has to thrust her elbow into my thorax when I get too noisy. So relaxing...

I wish I'd HEIDI's articulate thought and expression. I don't know if she posts on here but she runs a superb blog VirusHead.net where she most intelligently and benevolently helps XJWs and would-be XJWs, free of resentment and hatred, Bravo. JWD Albertans who may know her, please convey to her my congratulations.

Ms McDucket,
If your skin really looks like the picture shows, your psoriasis must have evolved over a very long period (about 10 years) because it doesn't appear that bad in a short time. If it did come out fast, I bet it's not psoriasis. In addition, as it is nerve related (often comes out after a psychological trauma) , rash patches appear symetric on your body, not central. Psoriasis isn't sore, it's just a rash unless, after a long period, it evolves into articular rheumatism, in about 5% of cases. I wouldn't advise you to spend your money on meds : vitamin A (harms your liver as Momzcrazy mentioned), or corticoids which are just cosmetic. There is one cure : if you can find an opportunity, go spending a long holiday in an equatorial country (sunny and humid), it will be gone within two months, for a long while, about 2 years (and will be back slowly, or won't come back at all). UV treatment must be handled cautiously because you can't be exposed to the rays, all in all, more than 150 hours, it's used as a last resort. Eating milk fat makes psoriasis go worse.

To those still "active", what makes you keep going to meetings?
by Cindi_67 ini've been reading a lot of posts and a lot of you here on the board, are "active" members, attend all meetings and conventions, go out in field service, even help with quick builds.
i don't want this to sound like i am disrespecting anybody, but what makes you lead a double life?
doesn't anybody at the hall notice your lack of interest?

I'm in between. I don't preach nor attend the book study anymore, for reasons I explained to the elders, and told my wife that I will accompany her to the mid week meeting, if she wishes to attend, because I don't want her to feel miserable on her own. For a while I insisted the whole family to attend the WE meeting but the kids don't want to go anymore. To anyone who asks about them I explain that if they are of age to get baptized, they must be in a position to say if they want to attend meetings or not. I don't feel I lead a double life, I just manage a situation and I express my thoughts freely to elders, so far unretaliated, with the feeling that a few of them would like to enjoy the same freedom as the one I enjoy.

You want to travel abroad ? Join with JWs !
by aligot ripounsous ini'm amazed at seing how that religion has spawned a new brand of globe-trotters.
with a view to creating new foreign congregations in big cities, the wts is encouraging publishers to leave their original congregations, learn a foreign language (tuitions are set up for that purpose) and go supporting these groups.
some publishers are just too happy to add variety to their lives and engage in the venture, even though they may not know even a single word of the foreign language.

WT,
I'm afraid my thread is not clear enough and is misunderstood. I'm not talking about WTS sending SP abroad but about the creation of "ethnic" congregations (Chinese, Tamil, Thai, Rumanian, Russian, etc) in big european cities. R&F publishers are asked to support these groups and have to learn the language, sometimes from scratch. It's not cost effective for the WTS, not in financial terms but because "able" elements are distracted from congregations. In addition, the whole process is, IMO, inefficient (imagine a frenchman preaching in Paris in the Thai language) and viewed by the publishers as a way to escape the daily routine.

Some publishers are just too happy to add variety to their lives and engage in the venture, even though they may not know even a single word of the foreign language. BTW, I wonder if the WTS has well assessed the depleting effect of such moves on existing congregations. Anyway, a few months later you find these publishers travelling in the foreign country, supposedly to further their learning, at a small cost since they are put up by the local JWs. From there on they can extend their trip to other countries. Among other examples, I've particularly in mind a young JW girl who, in this way, has covered Asia from India to Japan, including China and Korea, and thence down to Viet-Nam, Cambodia, Thailand and what else. I'm not sure the process is very cost effective for the WTS in terms of making disciples but it certainly is enjoyable for these crafty youngsters who have learnt how to take advantage of the worldwide network of congregations.

The longest prayer ever ...
by Vivamus inthe memory of this just popped back into my mind.. i was at a 3 day congress, and the ending prayer was said by this really old brother.
he was one of the survivors of wo ii concentration camps were he was put for being a jw.. anyway, the poor man started his prayer with thanking jah, and then he recalled every piece and play of the three day congress.
i bet the man had written his prayer on paper and rehersed it each day adding a new 15 minutes to it ... he even mentioned a part where a witness lady replayed an incident on the street - she gave witness to by-standers - and one of the people she talked to had a stuffed dog.

every second word was Jehovah
When you hear that sort of prayer, you can tell for sure that the speaker tries to sound as if he were in a warm close relationship with Jehovah but, as an actual fact, has little to say.
Edit : Sorry LouBelle for this undiplomatic remark, hope you don't take it badly.
